It’s well known that dogs suffer separation anxiety when the homeowners are away. This may manifest in several unpleasant ways. Many cat owners believe that their pets are more independent and solitary animals and therefore are not as affected by the homeowner’s absence. Research has proven otherwise and cats do suffer separation anxiety. Here are some ideas to help reduce your cat’s stress prior to your departure:
- Make some changes in your routine several days before your departure. Ignore your pet for 15 minutes before you leave and 15 when you return home.
- Leave some tasty treats in various places throughout the home.
- Make the environment more stimulating. Set up a comfortable place where your cat can enjoy a nice view through the window.
- Leave a radio or TV on with a soft volume.
